Dear Friends,

Thank you for your generous donations and continued support. Because of your help, we have been able to carry on our relief efforts in those areas affected by Hurricane Katrina.

On Monday, September 19th, LEAN received a desperate call for help from a husband and wife who were in need of food. They spent their savings on evacuating for Katrina and on a generator so that Mr. Tom could take care of his paralyzed wife. On Tuesday, September 20th, a couple of LEAN staffers brought food and toiletries to their home in Robert, Louisiana. They had nothing in their pantry and would not receive their social security checks for another twenty days. Additionally, we stopped by the CARE office in Hammond, Louisiana and brought goods for several displaced families.

On Wednesday, LEAN staffers loaded an 18-foot truck with clothing, blankets, canned goods, snack foods and cleaning supplies donated by people from Baton Rouge and through the LEAN web site. The truck, along with two LEAN volunteers, made its way to Lafitte, a bayou town south of New Orleans, and dropped off the donations at the city's municipal building for distribution to residents.

While power has been restored to much of Lafitte, the residents have only begun to assess the damage and start the difficult process of rebuilding their homes and restoring their lives.

Once again, thank you so much for your generosity.

With Warmest Regards,

Marylee Orr
