ACTION ALERT!

Call the Capitol and ask your Representative to

“VOTE AGAINST SB 209”

Passage of this bill would essentially create a program for “mail order permits” in Louisiana!

SB 209 is a regulatory permit bill that will allow LA DEQ to develop a new class of permits.  With this legislation ALL THAT A FACILITY HAS TO DO IS NOTIFY DEQ, PAY A FEE, THEN START THEIR ENGINES!  LDEQ says they will develop rules under the Administrative Procedure Act to govern the parameters regarding which facilities can operate with this permit and the level of pollutants they can emit.  HOWEVER, the bill contains no explanation of the activities, operations or processes for which these permits will be issued, there are no time limits for the duration of the permits, and there are no requirements for compliance reviews by LDEQ.  It essentially provides for the issuance of a permit by notification.  This is one of three bills that LDEQ has offered this session to shorten the time period for the permitting process.
·        LEAN supports efficiency and a competitive climate for economic development, but we do not support the sort of weakening of environmental safeguards and meaningful permit reviews that this bill, in its current form, seeks to achieve.
·        As such, we! need to defeat this bill!
·        Call your representative at 225/342-2456 or 800/256-3793 and leave the message to Vote “NO” on SB209.
